GOING DEEPER IN STEWARDSHIP - DAY ONE

Building a Foundation of Stewardship

Where Does Stewardship Start?

Stewardship begins with understanding God’s ownership.

'In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. ' Genesis 1:1

The fact that God first created the heavens and earth leads us to the natural conclusion that he owns it.

  • ' The earth is the Lord ’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. ' Psalm 24:1-2

  • 'For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. “If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine. ' Psalm 50:10-12

Everything we do is based on understanding our role as stewards and God’s role as owner. In essence, our relationship with God is properly defined through stewardship.

God established this order in Genesis 1:

'Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” ' Genesis 1:26

Stewardship is foundational to everything we do because it defines how we relate to God.

Stewardship is how we glorify God. Through stewardship, we engage with him with a renewed understanding of His role as Lord (and Owner) of our lives.

Stewardship connects us to God through partnership. We partner with him as we live our lives and manage what he has entrusted to us. When we recognize God as our owner, we continually turn back to him as we make decisions.

' The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. ' Proverbs 16:9

When we are faithful to do this, we begin to hear his voice and follow his will in our lives.
