GOING DEEPER IN STEWARDSHIP - DAY FOUR
Understanding Generosity
The first thing you have to realize with generosity is realizing that you have an excess/margin to give.
God isn’t going to ask you to give what you don’t have.
How do you know if you have the margin to be generous towards God’s kingdom?
Having a system for managing your money; i.e., budgeting.
Generosity is an exercise in listening for God’s guidance in how to give, and exercising your faith that God provides.
Is there a right way to give?
Giving with wisdom; i.e., not giving so sacrificially that it puts you or your family at risk of not being able to meet basic needs. Creating the capacity to give, which means setting a budget that allows you room to give when you feel led.
Listening to the Lord’s voice. Sometimes God will ask us to give sacrificially, in a way that makes us uncomfortable.
Is there a wrong way to give?
We have to be careful to not give with the mentality or expectation to be blessed in return or give with the expectation to “get.” Our heart posture and commitment to the Lord will always be more significant than any dollar amount we give to a kingdom cause.
Biblical Application: The widow’s two coins.
Reflection: Is God prompting me to be generous with my finances? What are some ways I can be better postured to be generous when he does ask me to do so?
