How to Invest in Kingdom Ministries

Guest Writer: Rachel Rupert

The other day I was browsing Instagram when I saw a post from a page geared towards ministering to women. I’ve seen their posts many times before, and intrigued, wandered over to their website. I found a series of devotionals, and one of them piqued my interest. I clicked the devotional and looked at the price: $20, for a small paperback.

All my life I have been trained to steward my resources, so price means something to me. Many times, I’ve looked at the price of something and have tried to justify if the cost is worth the value I would receive. Working at a small organization like CSN has given me a new perspective.

Consider the Kingdom Value over your own Personal Gain

(But to have both is a win, win)

No one person can accomplish the mission of spreading the gospel alone. There are hundreds and thousands of people and ministries who are working their own unique fields to help people know Jesus. God has made His Bride beautifully diverse with many ways to draw people to Him.

So often as believers, we feel like God calls us to give but look for opportunities like funding mission trips, or sponsoring a child in a third-world country. Those ministries are essential, but it’s just one small avenue of the many things God is doing on the earth today.

When I looked at the website of this ministry, I knew this was a ministry just like ours. Small. Passionate. Big dreams, small team.

When I looked at the price of this devotional, I saw the blood, sweat, and tears that went into producing it. I saw a team of women that labored in love to produce this ministry in the hopes of impacting lives and drawing them closer to Jesus.

A $20 devotional isn’t just a great way for me to start my mornings. It’s also a way to support a mission that I believe in. I can’t reach thousands of women and help them draw near to God in the chaos of motherhood and daily life - but I can spend money on an organization that does.

Finding Creative Ways to Give

A financially stable, generous Christ-follower is armed and dangerous in the spirit. Our money can do tremendous good in the Kingdom if we just look for ways to use it. I’ve given to capital campaigns, I’ve been a faithful tither, and I’ve blessed friends who have raised funds for mission work or other needs. But nothing has brought me so much joy as having my quiet time with my wallet in hand, perusing this ministry’s website with the intent to spend money to support their cause. I am giving my money to an organization I love while simultaneously blessing my friends and family by giving them great devotionals and Bible studies. Not only am I funding a mission, but hopefully, I am helping my own circle grow in their relationship with Jesus.

You have a passion too… What is it? How can you help fund that mission?

Giving doesn’t have to be a burden. It can be exciting if you know how to give in ways that will promote what you’re passionate about. Find ways to fund a mission you believe in.

Consider the Small Organizations

There are so many great non-profit, ministry-minded organizations out there. Some are more established than others. While giving to large-scale ministries is important and shouldn’t be overlooked, there are a lot of ministries with a lot of heart but not a lot of funding. I’ll let you in on a little secret: when giving to a small organization, a little goes a long way. Your donations and dollars spent on them are seen and celebrated each and every time.

Spend to Give

Become a patron of your favorite mission-minded organization by purchasing their products with the intent of giving them away to others. If you believe in their mission, share it with others not just through a referral but by giving them something that allows them to experience it firsthand.

Don’t just wait for that “big donation:” do what you can, when you can

There have been times I’ve discounted my own ability to give because I didn’t feel like it was the right time to give a 3 or 4 figure donation. While there are definitely times God prompts us to give big gifts, we don’t have to wait for these moments to come to give. Giving is just as powerful and transformative through small, recurring gifts as it is writing a large check. There are no limitations when it comes to being generous!
